Frequently Asked Questions

Plug-in smoke alarms

What type of light-fitting is required?

I have a screw-type light-fitting. Can I still use the FireAngel plug-in alarm?
This fitting type is not yet available in the Eurpoean Union. Please watch this space for updates.

I get a beep every few seconds. What should I do?
Ensure that the alarm is fully charged by leaving the light on for a day.
If this does not help, remove the alarm and re-fit it ensuring that the alarm sits correctly in the light-fitting.

How long does the plug-in alarm last?
The PS-101 is covered by a 10 year warranty and should be replaced after 10 years (i.e. 10 years from date of purchase)

How much energy does the unit consume?
The additional current used by the PS-101 is very small. During its 10 year lifetime, if used with a 60 Watt bulb for a total of 1 hour per week, the additional cost of the current taken by the alarm is under 10p.

Easy-Wire smoke alarms

Do I require an installer for these alarms?

How much is the power consumption?
If the alarm is wired with a permanent live connection, then the power consuption of the alarm is less than 10p a year. when the switched wiring option is used, the power consuption is even less.

Can I use Easy Wire with strip lights?
The Easy Wire alarm can be wired into circuits incorporating strip lighting. The alarm should be located at least 30cm(12 inches) away from the fluorescent light fitting, which emits electrical 'noise' that can prevent correct alarm operation. Additional note - The alarm should not be fitted within 30cm(12 inches) of light fittings or other ceiling based obstructions in all cases to avoid obstruction of the air flow.

Can I use easy Wire with dimmers?
Yes.. In the 'limited' wiring option where the alarm is only charged when the light is switched on, the initial charging of the back-up battery will need to be obtained with the dimmer set to its maximum setting.
Testing and Resetting can be carried out using the extremes of the dimmer to simulate flicking the light switch off and on.

What happens if the light circuit fails?
From a fully charged position, the Easy Wire smoke alarms remains on standby for 45 days. Without a functional light circuit, theTesting and Resetting will only be available using the Test/Reset button on the alarm.

Does the Easy Wire last forever?
Your Easy Wire smoke alarm should be replaced 10 years from activation. Keep a record of your purchase to help you remember.

Do I have to change back-up batteries?
No! The integral rechargeable longlife battery should not be removed under any circumstances. It does not need replacement for the lifetime of the product.

Can I link into the mains circuit (other than the lighting circuit?)
You can assign the alarm its own permanent live supply. However, you will not have the benefit of lightswitch control. Testing and Resetting in the event of a false alarm will need to be done using the Test/Reset button on the alarm itself.

Can I electrocute myself if I open the alarm to change the back-up batteries?
The alarm should not be opened under any circumstances. There is no need to change the bach-up battery.
