A standard smoke or carbon monoxide alarm potentially would not wake a high percentage of children aged 6-15 in a house fire, because the sound fails to wake them. In addition over 9 million people are registered as deaf or hearing impaired in the UK and would not automatically wake to a standard smoke or carbon monoxide alarm.
